I’m useless

Almost every day I think that I’m not doing anything worthwhile. In today’s world, with everyone doing and showing so much, it’s easy to think that we’re useless and that our work and vision is irrelevant.

My new goal is to make my useless useful. I’m starting to realize that followers, words, pictures, etc. are worthless if they aren’t useful. What I mean by useful is something that generates tangible value.

Books are useless unless you actually think about and apply what you learn. That’s why so many books “seem to change our lives” when we’re reading them, but our lives stay the same when we’re done.

You can have millions of followers, but if you don’t provide value to them, it’s only a number.

Having information and consuming it is something that doesn’t require us to take action. It’s passive. It’s only when we apply what we know that we truly learn.

I realize my feelings of being useless come from the fact that I have tons of information and knowledge, but I don’t really do anything with it. I’m trying to think of ways to change that.

So, from now on, every time I think “I’m not doing anything, I’m useless”, I’ll try to change it to “I’m not doing anything with what I have and know; how can I make something useful with that?”

In order to do that, I have to deal with one of my biggest problems. I have this problem with motivation and energy: I feel great on the first days, motivated because I had this great idea, but that motivation fades once the idea needs to be implemented and I’m left with the work. Tiago Mattos said it best: I suffer with the Ideas Valley. When I have a new idea, I’m eager to work on it, but when I try to implement it, my enthusiasm starts to wane. To keep me motivated, I need new ideas. Here we go again on that roller coaster ride!
